The Renaissance Cellar

The cellar was a room for the storage of foodstuffs, wines or other products, a kind of cellar located on the ground floor or underground level of a building.

Their main use was the storage of perishable foods such as cereals, fruits, vegetables, meats, as well as wines and other liquids, providing cool, darkened conditions to preserve food and drink in optimal conditions for long periods. These spaces were built with stone or brick walls, and often had vaulted or vaulted ceilings to provide structural stability. Some may also have had wells or water storage systems to ensure a constant supply. It was essential for the supply and survival of people at the time, as it allowed food to be stored and preserved for longer periods, especially in times of shortage or siege. It was also used to store tools, utensils or other valuables.
