Description

Virtual reconstruction of sacks and bags from Roman times. Sacks are containers similar to bags, but without handles and are usually larger. They were used to store and transport a wide variety of products, especially food, which is why they were very common, and are still used today. On the other hand, the Romans used a kind of bag or purse, known as a bursa, which was a simple bag carried by both men and women and used to be made first of leather and then of cloth. It was an article of first necessity, since until the 16th century the articles of clothing did not have a pocket and it was necessary to store coins, keys, combs, etc. They used to carry them between their clothes, tied to a belt or in their hands. The same god Mercury was represented with a bag in his hand, as the god of transport, commerce and abundance.
