Description

Silver denarius minted by order of Marco Antonio between the years 32 and 31 a. C. to pay his troops in the context of the civil war. It was minted on a movable mint such time near the Greek city of Patras. On the obverse a Praetorian galley can be seen sailing to the right. Around the legend ANT(onius) AVG(ur) III VIR R(ei) P(ublicae) C(onstituendae). Antonio Augur, one of the three men with the authority to organize the State (the triumvirs). On the reverse there is a legionary eagle on his banner among two other military insignia. Among them the legend LEG(io) VI. Sixth Legion.
