Description

This vessel, with an almost globular profile and belonging to the Iberian culture, features a circular handle on one of its sides, as well as a knob on the top. On another side, a conical spout can be observed, which serves as a feeding bottle, accompanied by a tubular hole at the bottom through which milk is introduced. Notably, as a form of decoration, it bears a series of incisions that may resemble a human face.

This piece of domestic pottery, wheel-thrown, was fired in a reducing atmosphere and is made of fine yet compact clay, with medium-grain dark-colored temper. However, the surface is smoothed and coated with a slip, giving it a whitish hue.

It served as a utensil for feeding babies during their early years of life. This may lead us to think that food dependency during this stage did not necessarily fall entirely within the female sphere, as babies could be fed by other children, women, or men, beyond their own mother.
