Description

The scales, known as Roman statera, are measuring instruments for weighing. They are made up of two arms of different lengths: the object or merchandise to be weighed is hung from the short arm, either by means of a hook or by placing it on a plate, while the long arm, which has a weight scale engraved, a pylon or weight (pondus) is slipped until it is balanced horizontally, thus obtaining the weight. In this model, the pondus is based on the bust of Isis documented by Global Digital Heritage of the Museu Nacional Arqueològic de Tarragona.
